Mt Rushmore

Mt Rushmore

Day two in South Dakota was to be a Black Hills day. We looked at a map and decided we would hit Wind cave, then Cosmo’s Mystery Area, and finally Mt. Rushmore.   The drive took us about 2.5 hours out to Wind Cave then we back tracked hitting the other sites on the way home. We did the natural entrance tour at wind cave. It took us down over 350 steps to more than 200ft below ground and through some…

The Badlands

The Badlands

The remainder of our North Dakota trip was spent sight seeing and spending time with some great people. There were lots of laughs and many lessons by a two year old on how to make the things you want to do sound like someone else’s idea! We left North Dakota and Central Time for the Badlands and Black Hills of South Dakota and some road tripping side adventures to boot. For our drive from Bismarck, North Dakota to Interior, South…

Drive to North Dakota

Drive to North Dakota

The drive from Glacier to Bismarck is the longest of the trip. We left at 5:30 am in the hopes of making it Bismarck at a decent enough time not to totally disrupt BB’s dinner or bedtime schedule. When we headed out it was dark and really the first few hours were a bit boring. I did get to see one moose and one elk just kind of hanging out in fields on the side of the road. I thought…

Glacier National Park

Glacier National Park

Glacier National park was quite smoky during our visit. I would have like to have been able to see the views in all their glory.   Even with the active fire and smoke it was still pretty spectacular.   We spent one full day at the Tetons which is not enough but still provided a comfy campsite for 2 nights, more than ample resources, and lots of opportunity to hike! We set out in the morning to take the shuttle up to…

Wyoming – The Real Trip

Wyoming – The Real Trip

Most photos in this post were taken by Beau So here is where I am going to take a turn. I’ve been outlining our days and events of this backpacking trip and as I am writing it I am boring myself.   There was so much to tell and so many moments.   “We” (the collective group) had inside jokes and quotes and moments that took our collective and individual breaths away.   I have been telling a step-by-step account of each day…

Wyoming Backpacking – Day 2

Wyoming Backpacking – Day 2

Day two started with a good breakfast of oatmeal and the group finding out that M&K were not going to be moving on. They were early enough in the trip that LJ would hike them back to the car, drive them to Jackson Hole, drive back to the trail head and hike back to meet us sometime later that night or the next morning. We headed up a mountain straight away that day. The elevation from our first night to…

Wyoming Backpacking – Day 1

Wyoming Backpacking – Day 1

Photo taken by Beau! Day one of our backpacking adventure really started after a morning of packing and repacking our packs and an hour and a half van ride over the Teton Pass into Idaho. From there we made it to the Jedadiah Smith Wilderness and the trailhead that would start our adventure through the Teton Range.   Our group was split into two groups of 10 starting from opposite ends of the same trek with the hope of finding sites…

Trip of a lifetime – to discover living and my best friends life journey

Trip of a lifetime – to discover living and my best friends life journey

This summer I am spending 22 days traveling through parts of the United States I have never seen. This trip has been in the planning for 2 years.   It includes 6 days backpacking in the Tetons during “The Great American Eclipse” followed by road trips around several states to different camping and hiking areas.   This is an adventure of bucket list proportions and once again pushes the limit of my comfort zone and what I ever thought I would do….

Duncan Knob Day 2

Duncan Knob Day 2

My Duncan Knob overnight started really well and getting up after a good night sleep started day two off nicely. Here’s a thing about tent sleeping, you will either have a really great sleep or you will sleep horribly. In my experience there is no in between, its either like a rock or fitful! The pups slept well and we were warm and cozy with no incidents of “what was that?” Morning was your basic get up, make coffee, eat,…
