The Last Day

The Last Day

Today is the go home day. It was a wake up in a tipi, go for a hike, take an outdoor shower kind of day. I have to say I need an outdoor shower. There was something about using cold water in a tipi that is completely open to a mountain on one side so you can just be natural in nature and clean in more than just antibacterial ways. It was the best last morning I could have hoped…

Mt Rushmore

Mt Rushmore

Day two in South Dakota was to be a Black Hills day. We looked at a map and decided we would hit Wind cave, then Cosmo’s Mystery Area, and finally Mt. Rushmore.   The drive took us about 2.5 hours out to Wind Cave then we back tracked hitting the other sites on the way home. We did the natural entrance tour at wind cave. It took us down over 350 steps to more than 200ft below ground and through some…

The Badlands

The Badlands

The remainder of our North Dakota trip was spent sight seeing and spending time with some great people. There were lots of laughs and many lessons by a two year old on how to make the things you want to do sound like someone else’s idea! We left North Dakota and Central Time for the Badlands and Black Hills of South Dakota and some road tripping side adventures to boot. For our drive from Bismarck, North Dakota to Interior, South…

Drive to North Dakota

Drive to North Dakota

The drive from Glacier to Bismarck is the longest of the trip. We left at 5:30 am in the hopes of making it Bismarck at a decent enough time not to totally disrupt BB’s dinner or bedtime schedule. When we headed out it was dark and really the first few hours were a bit boring. I did get to see one moose and one elk just kind of hanging out in fields on the side of the road. I thought…

Sawtooth Mountains

Sawtooth Mountains

The day we left Boise we drove right to the Saw Tooth Mountains in the Saw Tooth National Forest. The mountain range is probably visible from a greater distance then what we saw but fires in and around Idaho have left a smoky haze on the horizon. We drove through Stanley Idaho stopping for gas, fuel for our stove, and some interesting looks from some trailered llamas before heading to Alturas Lake just about 13 miles away. We were out…

Trip to the Moon

Trip to the Moon

I will say now a few days out in a hotel I feel amazing. I had one night the day after we got back I got super tired and felt just a mess. I got overwhelmed and tired and was about to throw in the towel for some site seeing and other stuff until I remembered WWDS (What Would Dan Say). My boyfriend has a way of supporting me without protecting or really even supporting. Its more just holding back…

Lake Jenny – With My Favorite Jenny

Lake Jenny – With My Favorite Jenny

The day after we got back from the Wyoming Wilderness we planned to go to Yellowstone. Many of the group told us that the traffic getting to and from Yellowstone was going to be quite bad and that it would be worth seeing the Grand Teton Park which was closer and had lots of options for hiking and sight seeing.   So Jenn and I headed to Lake Jenny nestled just at the base of The Grand. On the 20-minute drive…

Wyoming – The Real Trip

Wyoming – The Real Trip

Most photos in this post were taken by Beau So here is where I am going to take a turn. I’ve been outlining our days and events of this backpacking trip and as I am writing it I am boring myself.   There was so much to tell and so many moments.   “We” (the collective group) had inside jokes and quotes and moments that took our collective and individual breaths away.   I have been telling a step-by-step account of each day…

Wyoming Backpacking – Day 2

Wyoming Backpacking – Day 2

Day two started with a good breakfast of oatmeal and the group finding out that M&K were not going to be moving on. They were early enough in the trip that LJ would hike them back to the car, drive them to Jackson Hole, drive back to the trail head and hike back to meet us sometime later that night or the next morning. We headed up a mountain straight away that day. The elevation from our first night to…

Wyoming Backpacking – Day 1

Wyoming Backpacking – Day 1

Photo taken by Beau! Day one of our backpacking adventure really started after a morning of packing and repacking our packs and an hour and a half van ride over the Teton Pass into Idaho. From there we made it to the Jedadiah Smith Wilderness and the trailhead that would start our adventure through the Teton Range.   Our group was split into two groups of 10 starting from opposite ends of the same trek with the hope of finding sites…
