January Gym Goers!

January Gym Goers!

So it’s January and people have started to flood the gym’s and health food stores around the country.  Your co-workers, friends, family, neighbors are talking about their new diet or passing by on whatever you brought to share.  During this time I need to speak to both the Gym Rats and healthy year-rounder’s and those just starting.  Please be kind to each other. Gym goers I know it’s frustrating to have your routine changed or messed up.  That you don’t…

What?!?!

What?!?!

Recently in my introduction to Ariel Silks class the instructor was discussing the similarities to Ariel Yoga. She was teaching me a pose called the Gazelle. She says well in yoga they took our Gazelle and made it a moose. I assumed based on context she meant the just made it clunky-er and less graceful. I giggled and said that’s a great saying. She looked thoroughly confused. So I explained the gazelle into a moose was a cute saying. She…

Brain Farm

Brain Farm

I have spent this summer trying all kinds of new activities. I keep trying more. This journey of dealing with depression, anxiety, and PTSD has become more and more about finding me. It seems the other issues really seem to happen less the more I am true to myself. That means letting myself try things on a whim and give them up just as quickly without feeling badly about it. I use to think it just solidified that I was…

Big Wild Adventure!

Big Wild Adventure!

I am always looking for adventure. Mostly they are little slightly wild adventures. In august of 2017 I am going on a Big Wild Adventure. I will be taking the trip of a lifetime. I am doing a backpacking trip through the Tetons during a full Solar Eclipse. It will be fully visible from the southern part of the park. I have never been to the area. I will be going on a guided trip with a small group using…

The Real Dog Paddle

The Real Dog Paddle

With my cheek gently cupped by cold porcelain and trying to distract myself from my bodies desire to rid itself of my stomach contents, I couldn’t help but wonder about the origins of the term “Sick as a Dog”.  I am sure there were better things to think about but the dog outside the door and my brain being the thought trampoline it is…that’s where it landed. According to World Wide Words there isn’t any good reason for the term.  Just…

It’s the truth and yes, it hurts!

It’s the truth and yes, it hurts!

I am going to be so blatantly honest with my past that all I can say is this…. Judge all you want…I have finally learned the only judgment that matters is my own and I have learned to be gentler toward myself.  I am telling it only because I want other people out there to know that they are not alone.  I did not start fit and healthy.  I have not made every right choice.  I was not a naturally…

What the hell MOM! Part 1 of 3 – Vermont

What the hell MOM! Part 1 of 3 – Vermont

My sister and I have a long history of sibling rivalry.  My sister is much more like my mother where I am nothing like either of them.  Over the years we have had the standard fights between sisters.  Mostly because I thought she was the favored child and she….well I’m not sure she remembers I lived in the house to be honest. I thought mom loved her more.  In the defense of my mom and my sister, I was not…

RUNNNNNNNNN!!!!

RUNNNNNNNNN!!!!

I had intended to post a deeply personal and not at all funny blog post today.  Alas I will wait till later and post this little short feel good story instead. Today I went for my 4-mile run and saw the greatest thing! I saw a pack of about 35 kids running a 5k with their teachers.   The one teacher in the front with 2 boys, who couldn’t have been older than about 7, looked like she may have bit…

I need to get my shit together!

I need to get my shit together!

“I need to get my shit together!” is something I have said quite a bit in my life. I hear it from others often as well. My most common uses are about exercise and weight loss. If I realized I hadn’t been working-out or knew I was getting even more out of shape I would regularly say, “I have to get my shit together!” If I was eating too much or the bad stuff or just all around not doing something…
